$ sudo apt-get install texlive-
also try
$ sudo apt-get install texlive-lang-greek

$ sudo apt-get install texlive-lang-greek
Thank you! I had texlive-latex-extra installed, but not texlive-lang-greek on this particular machine. Surprisingly, though, LyX appeared to find the error in a passage that contained no Greek text, whereas Greek was present at another point in the document.
